If you were hoping for more Playboi Carti x Ye tracks, it’s looking a bit bleak.
Yesterday, Kanye decided to drop a track titled “ALIVE” featuring NBA YoungBoy. What was weird about it, though, is that he sampled Playboi Carti’s “CRANK” which confused a lot of us. Did Ye get clearance from Carti? Is the beef squashed?
Turns out, it seems like Ye stole Carti’s song because the Atlanta rapper clapped back after the song was posted with the OG version of the track also featuring NBA YoungBoy with the caption “DIS MY SONG LIL BRA @ye.” It’s all pretty confusing considering Ye and Carti are beefing - how did he even get his hands on the “ALIVE” track? Maybe they went through the producers of the track F1LTHY and Lucian but nothing’s confirmed as of yet.
What we do know is that this is an ongoing beef between the two artists, with the spat starting back when Carti’s long-awaited “MUSIC” album came out. Ye was not happy with being left out of the project and it stung even harder when his ex-wife Kim Kardashian posted a story with the SKIMS lyrics from “FINE SH*T” off of MUSIC. Carti reposted the story, saying he wanted to get North West on a song, referring to her as his niece and that was what really set Ye off.
The Chicago artist lost all composure and started ranting on Twitter, saying North was not allowed to be on any music with Carti, brought Iggy Azalea and Carti’s son Onyx into the conversation and even promised to do everything to “legally burn” him in “a gas chamber.” Carti simply replied to all the tweets with “YE STFU” - the tweet went viral and got over 61M views.
Ye resumed his Twitter rant again and, ultimately, he felt betrayed for not being given credit for giving the Atlanta rapper a platform and co-signing him when he was still on the come up. It’s a shame, considering the two have made some bangers over the years like “CARNIVAL” and worked together for “2024” - a cult favourite track from the leaks era. Guess we'll just have to enjoy whatever's already been given to us.
