What went down when Kid Cudi took the stand at the Diddy trial

Yesterday, rapper Kid Cudi took to the stand at the Diddy trial. The rapper was called as a witness due to the interactions he allegedly had with Diddy when he dated the prosecution's star witness, Diddy’s ex, Cassie Ventura, back in 2011.

Per The New York Times, Kudi’s “testimony is important to the government’s narrative that Mr. Combs used violence as a tool while running a criminal enterprise that engaged in sex trafficking and racketeering.”

During his two-hour testimony, Kudi said that in December 2011, he got a call from Cassie, who said Combs had found out about their relationship. He said he took Ms Ventura to a hotel for safety, then received a call from a mutual friend, who claimed that Combs and another person were inside Kudi’s Los Angeles home.

He told the court that he proceeded to drive home, where he found his security cameras turned to face the wrong way, unopened Christmas presents for his family gone through, and his dog locked in the bathroom and acting "jittery and on edge".

Kudi also recalled a time in January 2012, when his Porsche was broken into and a Molotov cocktail was placed inside, claiming that he believed Diddy was the person responsible. He allegedly confronted Diddy at a club in Los Angeles shortly afterwards, where he says Diddy claimed not to know what he was “talking about.” Years later, Diddy allegedly apologized, but didn’t specify what for. Kudi also described Diddy as a Marvel supervillain. Diddy denies the accusation.

To the internet’s bemusement, Kudi showed up to the trial in jeans, a white T-shirt, and a leather jacket, with a cigarette in his mouth while the majority of other male attendees wore the usually expected court attire — suits.

Following his testimony, Young Thug took to X (formerly Twitter) to call Cudi “a rat”. Interestingly, the same lawyer—Brian Steele— who defended Thug in his YSL racketeering trial in 2024, is defending Diddy.

Diddy is facing possible life in prison if convicted on charges of racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has denied the charges and pleaded not guilty.
