Ahead of his newly released mixtape “Carpe Diem” featuring his hit single “One Man”, we gave AntsLive a lift to his Arsenal Women’s Match to chop it up.
We chatted about his favourite underground brand, what he listened to growing up and a pretty unusual artist he’s been fw recently.
Who’s your favourite Arsenal player?
Right now, bro, it's got to be [Bukayo] Saka. I've got to give a special shout-out to [Ethan] Nwaneri.
Nwaneri over Myles Lewis-Skelly?
You don't have to compare bro, it's not a competition. I say both of them, Skelly and Nwaneri, they got me excited man, it's always good to see young players coming through.
Who are the top two players for ladies?
I'd say Leah Williamson, she's just like a solid player - and Chloe Kelly.
What’s an underrated brand?
Maxime [2Z Black], they’re cold. This is 99 by JMS, that’s one of my guys.
What music do you listen to in the car?
Right now, I'm into like, I don't even know how to describe it. There’s some weird kind of alt pop in my playlist right now.
Do you want to shout out any artists?
Do you know, I just discovered this artist, Dean Blunt. Oh, yeah. F*ck with him. Sometimes if I'm really in my feelings, I'll play some f*cking Beabadoobee or something. But mostly, I'll be real, mostly it's rap, UK rap. I'm listening to Lancey [Foux] right now, there's that new Skepta with PlaqueBoy Max, which is hard. You know what's crazy? I'm not really an album man. I feel like I got too much ADHD for albums sometimes, I'm more of a soundbite - if I hear something, I'll just tap in. Maybe tap into the artist, but even then, not necessarily listen to a whole album. I did listen to a lot of J. Cole when I was like, starting to write when I was like 11, 12, 13.
Who else did you listen to growing up?
In the UK, I listen to a lot of Chip, Skepta, Kano and then in the US it was more like J Cole, Kendrick, 50 [Cent], Eminem, even, when I was younger. When I got a bit older, I started to figure out my own taste. You know those [artists] are more mainstream. That's when I started listening to Joey [Bada$$]. My music taste isn't crazy niche, it's just what I like.
What was playing in your house when you were growing up?
Bro, my mum would play the same Aretha Franklin CD every Sunday, bro, and that's when I knew I'd be hoovering, man, or cleaning, bro. When this music was on, I'm cleaning, bro.
