Neon Genesis Evangelion is a Japanese mecha anime television series produced by Gainax. Set in 2015 (but created in 1995), Angels have started attacking the earth and a group of 14-year-old pilots are the only ones that can stop them.
Paprika (2006)

This 2006 Japanese adult animated surrealistic science fantasy psychological thriller film is an interesting one. Imagine a machine that allows therapists to see their patients dreams… Now imagine it gets stolen. Young therapist Paprika is the only one who can stop the chaos.
Ghost in the Shell (1995)

This Japanese cyberpunk media franchise - based on the manga series of the same name - is set in the year 2029. Following a cyborg policewoman, the show sees her go on the hunt for a cyber criminal hacker named “Puppet Master”. Creepy, right?
