The collection features a steady mix of sportswear, casual wear and tailoring, with an overall relaxed take, focusing on the goal of easy dressing. The collection is made up of four categories; Ultimate Sport, Traveller, Evening, and DSQUARED2’s popular ICON line.
The first focuses on elements of sporty streetwear including bomber jackets and relaxed fitting trousers. This comes as no surprise as the brand has always celebrated the pursuit of sports, which has shaped some of the brands most iconic silhouettes, fabrics and styles. The brand’s DNA and history are rich with athlete-infused collections and collaborations. Most notably, Dean and Dan Caten designed the official opening ceremony uniforms of the Canadian Olympic team at the 2016 RIO Olympics. And in November 2019 DSQUARED2 unveiled their latest instalment of a long-standing collaboration with Manchester City FC, as their official pre-match uniform partner (which was first announced in 2016). The collaboration is currently on its fourth season.
The second category, ‘Traveller’ was a significant inspiration for the collection drawing on the idea of being a voyager. This features a balance of smart-casual pieces, from windbreakers to chinos. The ‘traveller patch’; a nylon knee-length windbreaker plastered in travel stickers is one of the stand-out pieces of the section. The windbreaker resembles well-travelled luggage and an owner keen on collecting souvenir stickers. The windbreaker doesn’t lack the playfulness of the brand, it features stickers around the hood which read ‘CLEAR THE RUNWAY BITCHES’ and ‘CANADUHHH’.
DSQUARED2 showcased their strong flair for tailoring through their ‘Evening’ category, which includes Italian styled suits in fine contemporary fits. The category also includes festive attire such as a double-breasted tuxedo and a sparkling green dinner jacket. Dean and Dan have made sure to tap into Milan’s demand for formal partywear with a diverse selection of sparkling jacquard, dazzling sequin and denim blazers.
And finally, The twin brothers and designers have released an ‘ICON’ section, which reimagines classic pieces through the brand’s history, emblazoning the word ‘ICON” and an archive Canadian DSQUARED2 patch across jeans, hoodies and outerwear.
Overall, the collection combines flashy stand-out pieces with more subtle, well designed classics, creating a balanced line-up that can take you from day to night.
Part of the Pre-SS21 collection is now available on the DSQUARED2 website, with more pieces set to be released.
