Menswear artistic director for Dior Kim Jones is no stranger to collaborations. This time around, Jones has enlisted sacai’s Chitose Abe to work on a collaborative capsule collection.
The line will be made up of 57 items featuring a merge of the two brands’ logos, with ‘sacai’ written in Dior’s ‘i’. This will be the first time the French luxury house is fusing its logo this way. While details are still scarce, we can expect to see an amalgamation of two cultures, combining Dior’s classic French tailoring and sacai’s Japanese take on sportswear and streetwear.
In an exclusive interview with Joelle Diderich for WWD, Kim Jones admitted to his admiration for his collaborator, stating “Sacai is one of my first stops when I go to Japan”. Travelling there at least six times a year – that is before the pandemic of course – he goes on to say “I’ve always loved [Chitose Abe] and I just think she’s one of the coolest women in the world. And we talked about doing this since I was at Vuitton, and then finally it happened”.
And Abe is not short of admiration for the designer, recounting the times Jones would visit her in Japan and they would talk about which vintage stores to go to. “Whenever I decide to do a collaboration, it always needs to be equal between the two parties” she said, “Since I’ve been friends with Kim for a long time, I very much enjoyed working with him from the start”. Both hallmark designers for luxury streetwear, we cannot wait to see what these two have in store for us.
After Jones’ Louis Vuitton collaboration with Supreme, the designer may recreate history with another show-stopping collaboration. Set to drop in November this year, this collection is guaranteed to be one of the most awaited this year.
