What went down at IKEA’s Hack House Party

We’ve been on the edge of our IKEA chairs for a few years, waiting for the new IKEA Oxford Street store to open its doors. And the date is finally here. The household brand is opening shop in Oxford Circus and threw the greatest housewarming of all time to celebrate.

The Swedish homeware and furniture label is hosting a number of events across London for the run-up to its big store opening on May 1st. On Friday night, IKEA took over a space in north London for a night filled with house and garage tunes – partnering up with cult partythrowers Lab54 (who are known for their secret location parties). And we partied the house down, IKEA-style.

The Hack House Party had everything we wanted from a house party fr. The space was insane. The main room was designed in the style of a real house party made up of different rooms (just like an IKEA store), with the decks in the middle of the “kitchen” that was filled with utensils, pans and other IKEA gear – the DJs were mixing tunes on a kitchen island. There were bedrooms and an outdoor area (backyard-style) to chill, and we obviously had to grab an IKEA goodie bag on the way out.

With a line-up of Higgo, Drinks on Me, Annabel Stop It, Charlie Boon, and Denham Audio cooking on the decks, the vibes were unmatched. The night was an ode to community – the community that’s grown up with IKEA, or went on a first date at IKEA – celebrating the London crowd and bringing only the greatest energy during a time when nightlife is struggling and clubs are closing down. And the crowd did not disappoint.

For over 80 years, IKEA’s been in our homes, for the good times and the bad. So, we had to celebrate the store that’s always been there when we needed a new bookcase or a new set of drawers; it raised us, furnished our homes, and fed us Swedish meatballs. And it will carry on doing so, with this new major location in the heart of central London.
