Last week CULTED posted a video over on TikTok recapping Corteiz’s latest stunt, an insane 99p sale in Shepherds Bush that brought the attention of 3000 fans. Clips of the event were crazy, featuring floods of crowds taking over the streets of London in the hopes of getting their hands on a pair of the brand’s iconic Blackout Cargos for just 99p. With CULTED’s video gaining almost 45k views and 200 comments, the spectacle caught the eye of CULTED’s community who offered their own opinions on the drop.

The sale was only teased the day of the event and didn’t even immediately reveal its location. Advertising details on Twitter, @CRTZRTW outlined “CRTZ 99P MARKET STALL. SATURDAY 3PM IN LUNDUN🇬🇧 CRTZ BLACKOUT CARGOS WILL BE SOLD FOR 99P. YOU MUST BRING 99p EXACTLY. THERE WILL BE NO CHANGE”. TikTok user @millymhayla speculated “Imagine dropping 1p and didn’t realise until you got there” and we have to agree the exact change policy might have been a litlle harsh. @d3vious._ corroborates this, saying “Nah cuz who actually carries exactly 99p”.
Considering how few people you’d expect to carry exactly 99p in London, the drop attracted a huge crowd of 3000 who can be seen in CULTED’s video sprinting round buses and through parks to get a pair of cargos. The value of your life vs. a pair of Corteiz cargos succeeded in splitting the comment section, with @o1ak2006 preaching “Don’t die for Corteiz” whilst @shivani_ptl stated “I would die for corteiz”. The angel and the devil on our shoulders.

Scavenger hunts are a staple of the brand and this isn’t the first time they’ve made fans search through London for their garments, though scarcely do they attract so many people. @_shinkuroda_ proposed an idea for their next event: “They need to do something with a QR codes on lamp posts and do a treasure hunt😳”. Considering the crazy stuff Corteiz has done in the past – including a drop where fans were asked to swap their coats for a newly released Bolo Jacket – this idea certainly isn’t off the cards. You can only imagine how many people would show up though.

User @ilikebread_01 commented under CULTED’s post, “I swear I saw a Tiktok of someone just randomly buying these 99p pants by accident yesterday”. People passing by getting swept up in the hype of the crowds was probably a minority though, since the commitment it took to actually getting a pair of cargos at the drop was a lot. Despite the 99p price tag, the hunting, racing, and queueing required to get to the front of the crowd took some serious dedication to the brand. Good thing it wasn’t raining as well.
