We love fashion month for the clothes, the glamour, the drama, and, more this year than ever, the celebrities. Whether they’re crowded into the audience or strutting centre-stage, celebrities at fashion events are the gift that keeps on giving, and this year they’ve come in hoards. But why are we so obsessed, and why was this September’s fashion month in particular so infested with stars? Here’s CULTED’s community’s take on our celebrity-induced frenzy.
Last week, CULTED posted a video on our TikTok of Kate Moss walking the Bottega Veneta SS23 show in Milan, which gained over 800k views and more than a thousand comments. Dressed in an iconic yet laid-back Bottega fit of simple blue-jeans, flannel, and a white tee, her casual walk had CULTED’s community flocking to the comment section to give their views on the cameo. On this occasion – because it’s literally Kate – reactions were overwhelmingly positive, with @keepingupwithgiuliet voicing all our feelings: “She’ll always be the coolest”.

As a 90s icon with a lengthy and glittering career at the helm of the industry, Kate’s already made a name for herself as a reputable model who can be trusted at the head of any show. As @justdeborah posted under CULTED’s TikTok, Kate’s what we consider to be a “Real model”; someone who’s had to prove their skill and worth through a decades-long career. Commenter @lucythevampireslayer says it right, summarising “Just because she’s older doesn’t mean she can’t still eat it up!”
And we can see that from the power of her presence in Bottega’s show. TikTok user @mariamdubaeva identifies Kate’s control over the gazes in a room by describing how “She’s so elegant without doing much”. Kate Moss is one of those models who takes breaths away without even trying. Her walk is a natural wonder of the world despite appearing effortless and sustained. She’s certainly one celebrity we’ll never be ready to remove from the runway.

Last week, we saw Paris Hilton take on Milan in an extremely on-brand look for Versace’s SS23 show. You can find a snapshot of Paris’ runway debut on CULTED’s TikTok, where she’s decked out in a glittering hot-pink ensemble with matching heels and veil. Whilst Paris doesn’t hold the same notoriety in the fashion world as Kate, she’s a “FOREVER ICON ” nonetheless, as described by commenter @nxrxlxsxnxrv. Paris is another star satisfying our latest craving to see celebrities on the runway, and she did an amazing job of it sweetie.
Even back in New York, we saw everyone’s favourite (uncut) gem, Julia Fox walk for Tommy Hilfiger in her now renowned heavy, smeared eye-makeup and a fitted red-and-black striped bodysuit to match the grunge aesthetic. Likewise, CULTED’s coverage of the show on TikTok induced calls of “This is so fashion week” (via @ericpacman_) and “She’s everyone’s muse” (via @ussygussymyjussy). Celebrities aren’t taking over fashion month, they already have and they’re here to stay.

It’s clear to see from CULTED’s posting of celebrity cameos on the runway this September that the CULTED community is largely here for it. From the come-back of Kate Moss to the debut of Paris Hilton, audiences are clamouring for more snapshots of our favs taking on the runway. Why’s it like watching your own toddler walk for Bottega? As @marbear111 wrote under CULTED’s Kate clip, “Tears in my eyes. Love her.”
