Credit to the designers who give credit where it’s due

If you tuned into Pharrell x Nigo’s FW25 Louis Vuitton Men’s show last week, you’ll have seen the moment at the end of the show when the two designers bowed and applauded a crowd of people coming out from behind-the-scenes. Well, that crowd was their design team.

The design team are the people who really make sh*t happen at a fashion brand, made up of pattern makers, seamstresses, stylists, and more. In his time at LV, Pharrell’s gone to lengths to make sure his design team get (almost) as much clout as he does, most memorably bringing them out onto the runway at his first show for the house at SS24.

Despite being the face of Louis Vuitton, Pharrell’s constantly acknowledging that he couldn’t do anything without his design team. And he’s not the only one. Last year, for Schiaparelli’s SS25 Ready-to-Wear show, Creative Director Daniel Rosebery celebrated his design team too.

Daniel Rosebery said, “This collection, like all my work, owes everything to the women who brought it to life… from client to seamstress to artisan and technician.” Particularly as a couturier, Rosebery recognises that, whilst it’s his visions being brought to life on the runway, he could never create them alone.

Arguably, creating couture makes designers respect the value of their design team that much more because of how intricate and lengthy the creation of the collection is. Another couturier who gave credit to his design team at every opportunity was Martin Margiela - we’ve all seen the famous rare picture of Martin photographed with his design team by Vogue in 2001.

Whether you’re designing couture or ready-to-wear, we always love to see Creative Directors giving out credit where it’s due, because let’s be real, they couldn’t do a lot without their design team.
