NAVINDER IS HOSTING AN EXHIBITION IN LONDON
Taking place in Soho on May 11, the London-based artist Navinder Nangla is hosting an exhibition filled with street art in collaboration with Converse. Known for his subversive takes on culture and fashion, having notably taken over Machine-A’s store earlier this year, the exhibition is already being teased with Converse branded tees tagged “con-vs” in his typical graffiti style.
NEW BALANCE AND PALACE ARE COMING OUT WITH A COLLAB
Both tastemakers in the streetwear scene, the New Balance and Palace link up just makes sense. Taking on New Balance’s Made In UK 991 sneaker, the brands are releasing 2 different colourways – a purple, teal and brown version and a purple, grey, black and red iteration. Alongside, the Palace x New Balance collection will also feature a range of co-branded clothing, including crewnecks, tees, shorts, windbreakers and caps and will be available on May 12.
PALM ANGELS GOES RACING WITH HAAS F1 TEAM
Just in time for the weekend’s Miami Grand Prix, Palm Angels has just released its first collection with Moneygram Haas F1 Team after announcing the partnership last November. Alongside special edition Miami Grand Prix t-shirts, the Black Tag and Red Tag collections explore the sport through tees, caps sweatshirts, hoodies and varsity jackets that feature high-speed racing graphics and F1 team logos. The racing-inspired collection is now available for purchase on Palm Angels’ website.
THE BFC HAS ANNOUNCED ITS NEWGEN LINEUP
Every year, the British Fashion Council supports and spotlights emerging designers as part of its BFC NEWGEN initiative. For 2023/2024, the list of new recipients has just been announced, with young talents Aaron Esh, Derrick, Kazna Asker, The Winter House and Tolu Coker making the list. These designers will be joining the likes of previous NEWGEN designers like Chet Lo, Helen Kirkum, Robyn Lynch and others in receiving financial support, mentoring and showcasing.
DRÔLE DE MONSIEUR X GERGEI ERDEI ELEVATES FRENCH STREETWEAR
Inspired by 90s resort style, Drôle De Monsieur’s classic looks are merged with Gergei Erdei’s historical Roman references in a cross-period collaboration. Offering tracksuits, shorts, t-shirts and accessories like towels, silk scarves and baseball caps, the collaborative collection takes its wearer on a journey to the sunny Florida golf resorts, residing in the Grand Hotel Drôle, as can be seen written on several pieces, which will be available for purchase on May 11.
CONVERSE & FRGMT ARE LAUNCHING A CAPSULE AROUND THE WEAPON
Converse’s Weapon basketball shoe was first introduced in 1986 and was brought to life through the connection between the sport and culture. Now, the footwear brand is teaming up with Hiroshi Fujiwara’s FRGMT to create a capsule centred around the Weapon. As well as a revisited sneaker, the collaboration also offers a varsity jacket, a terry hoodie and a variety of t-shirts that will be released on May 11 on Converse’s website.
DUKES CUPBOARD IS CELEBRATING ITS 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY WITH FILA
The London-based vintage retailer Dukes Cupboard known for selling rare pieces and making its own in-house collaborations is now teaming up with FILA for a celebratory collection. Founded a decade ago, Dukes Cupboard’s new collaboration features tees and sweatshirts adorned with the number 10, as well as graffiti style 90s-inspired and Earthy graphics. The full range is now available exclusively at Dukes Cupboard’s Soho store.
DIOR BEAUTY TAPS CALEB MCLAUGHLIN AS A NEW AMBASSADOR
Dior has been making strides in enlisting Gen Z talent to front its campaigns, including the latest for Dior Gris that featured Jenna Ortega and Maya Hawke among others. Tapping another “Stranger Things” actor, Dior Beauty has now brought Caleb McLaughlin in the roster for its “La Collection Privée fragrance line.
SAINT LAURENT SPOTLIGHTS JEAN-LUC GODARD IN A NEW SHORT FILM
Launching Saint Laurent Productions last month, a new brand for the French luxury house to support on-screen cinema, the subsidiary will be making its debut at this year’s Cannes Festival later this month. Having already announced the production of Pedro Almodóvar’s “Strange Way Of Life”, Saint Laurent Productions is now reportedly working on a short that will dive into the life and creative process of the late French New Wave director Jean-Luc Godard, a source of inspiration for the creative director Anthony Vaccarello.
