Chanel celebrated new fragrance Bleu de Chanel L’Exclusif in New York City on Thursday night and called in Daniel Caesar for a surprise performance.

In-house perfumer Olivier Polge went hard with this one. Bleu de Chanel was originally launched in 2010 and instantly became a timeless classic for men. The new L’Exclusif has an amber-woody trail and notes of sandalwood, leather and resin, which add to the complexity of the fragrance, making this the ultimate masc scent. And the sandalwood is sustainably sourced from the island of Maré in New Caledonia. The overall vibe is creamy, dark and sensual with a nuanced, enigmatic energy. Can’t wait to get our hands on this one.

To celebrate the US launch of L’Exclusif, the French house got us on the best rooftop of NYC, Le Jardin Sur Madison. The likes of Gabriette, Teyana Taylor, Evan Mock, Luka Sabbat, Sage Elsesser, and Conrad Fisher (aka Christopher Briney), among many others from NYC’s it-scene got together, dripped in the French house’s tweeds, chic Chanel-coded blacks and whites, and Bleu de Chanel blues. And the energy was too good. DJ Sam French was mixing on the decks. The drinks kept on coming and the guests were buzzing.

And then, Daniel Caesar showed up on stage, and the crowd went crazy. Chanel knows who to tap in for the music. Daniel gave us some of his best tunes, and some sneak peeks of new music (eyes emoji). To finish the night off, the Chanel way, the French house turned the Empire State Building’s tower lights blue – a spectacle for everyone in NYC. Only Chanel could do that, for real.
