As October and Halloween become a distant memory, November looks set to be one of the most significant months of the year for sneaker releases. Some brands are beginning to try something new with their drops to really garner attention, whilst independent sneaker creators are beginning to break into a seemingly unbreakable industry.
I take a look at the hottest drops of the week from the likes of Jordan and adidas whilst also shedding some light on the lesser-known releases that I feel deserve some coverage, too.
JOSHUA VIDES X NEW BALANCE 57/40
Joshua Vides has been around for a while, producing some seriously eye-catching art (did you ever see the Nicce office he painted?), but Vides has been causing waves throughout the streetwear and sneaker industries in recent months. The sketch/outline designs are instantly recognisable as a Joshua Vides creation and something everybody suddenly wants a piece of. After working with Fendi, Google, BMW and Converse, it is excellent to see Vides continuing to get the plaudits he deserves. New Balance has taken note, too, offering Vides the opportunity to work on a collaborative project.
We look to be receiving a unique version of the New Balance 57/40, one of the newer silhouettes from the Boston shoemakers. The design features a white and black colourway, a design that Vides has used across many projects and has become a signature move for the LA-based artist.
It is impressive to see how far Joshua Vides has come since his Air Force 1 customs broke the internet back in 2017, and I hope this is the beginning of a fruitful partnership between NB and Vides.
OBRA MARKET O1 OG FUSION
Instagrammer-turned-market owner @obra.jay has built a solid following of sneakerheads and fashionistas alike. With an impressive sneaker collection himself, obra opened the obra market and would begin to create his own silhouettes. Drawing inspiration from iconic sneakers, the latest offering comes in the shape of the Obra Market O1 OG Fusion. With the Air Jordan 1 the evident influence behind this shoe, the OG Fusion pulls aspects from previous O1’s that have been released.
This sneaker is truly unique because of the combination of aged detailing, vibrant green hues, and the intriguing obra swoosh across the upper. Pre-orders are still open for the shoe but close on November 1st. For anybody wanting to pre-order this shoe, the password for the website is OPEN ::). Do not miss the chance to own a genuine one-of-a-kind sneaker.
PATTA X NIKE AIR MAX 1 ‘NOISE AQUA’
Patta and Nike have a longstanding relationship and consistently deliver some of the hottest sneaker releases year after year. After the tremendous success of the first colourway, another version of the wave-like Air Max 1 lands this week in the ‘Noise Aqua’ colourway.
The wave design features a vibrant light blue hue across the upper and is contrasted by mesh and premium white leather. Dual branding can be seen throughout, with the Patta logo on display on the shoe’s tongues. I feel like this ‘Noise Aqua’ colourway is the best of the two recent Patta x Nike releases, and if previous Patta collabs are anything to go by, the price of these is sure to skyrocket on the resale marketplace. Grab a pair whilst you still have the chance.
BBC ICE CREAM X ADIDAS NMD HU RUNNING DOG ‘BLUE’
Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream are two brands linked to mogul Pharrell Williams. So it comes as no surprise to see a BBC Ice Cream collab with adidas after the hugely successful partnership between Skateboard P and the sportswear powerhouse.
The super cosy NMD Hu is a silhouette that’s popularity boomed thanks to Pharrell’s co-sign of the shoe, with the socklike uppers making it one of the most comfortable sneakers on the planet. A striking blue hue covers the uppers whilst an embroidered running dog spans across the NMD’s toebox. The groundbreaking Ultraboost technology features across the entire sole unit, whilst you will find Ice Cream branding on the heel tabs. If you are looking for the perfect combination of style and comfort, then look no further. The BBC Ice Cream x adidas NMD Hu is the shoe for you.
NIKE DUNK HIGH RETRO ‘TOASTIE RATTAN’
If there is one thing everybody appreciates when the temperatures drop, it is the opportunity to stay toastie. Thankfully, Nike has you covered as they cover a pair of Dunk Highs in a ‘Toastie Rattan’ colourway. The instant classic colour combo sees a mix of materials used across the upper, with premium white underlays contrasted expertly by cream coloured Dunk panelling. The Legendary Nike Swoosh features across the lateral and medial sides of the shoe in black. In a unique twist, retro Nike tabs feature on the ankle collar of this silhouette.
Some people within the sneaker community are starting to grow tired of the increase in Nike Dunks releasing. But finally, it feels as if everybody has a fair chance of copping a pair of the iconic sneaker. With colourways like this ‘Toastie Rattan’ I imagine the Dunk will be a fan favourite for years to come.
