The collection, titled ‘Califia’ between influencer Aleali May and Jordan Brand is a colourful treasure trove of nostalgic 90s pieces. Named after the fictional queen from the 15th-century novel ‘Las Sergas de Esplandián’ by Garci Rodríguez de Montalvo, the collaboration celebrates and updates the oversized style of Jordan-era basketball.
‘Califia’ is made up of a number of apparel pieces including snap-on track pants, oversized shorts and an oversized leather-sleeved varsity jacket. However, the real pièce de résistance is a revamped version of the Air Jordan 1 High Zoom CMFT. This sneaker comes in a green/blue colourway and features a high-cut satin collar with a matching swoosh to boot.
The lookbook for the collection sees models in a school gym wearing the pieces, layering cropped t-shirts over built-in tank tops, while others sport a tee featuring Michael Jordan playing basketball. It’s a nostalgic yet incredibly well-designed collection that harks back to the oversized larger than life style of the 90s NBA.
