A$AP Rocky’s cultivated image is like no other – a free spirit, unbound by the chains of trend and mimicry, his music, fashion statements, and entire aura is of a man with unmatched energy doing whatever he wants, whenever he wants. In the latest GQ issue – one which Rocky features on the cover donning a plethora of androgynous clothing from a wide variety of designers: Vivienne Westwood, Bottega Venata, Chanel to name a few – Pretty Flacko opened up on his personal journey following on from the month-long jail spell he spent in Sweden.
While locked up for a street brawl defending his friends from harassment in Sweden, Rocky’s time outdoors was limited to merely half an hour a day. In the cell, he took pen to paper and designed a collection for Parisian Marine Serre, a process Serre calls “natural and easy” unlike many collaborations today.
Talking on upcoming projects, Rocky was excited to reveal that his next album – one that fans have been waiting for since 2018 – is “90% completed”, and comes as a “ghetto love tale”. It’s expected that the Flacko we see here will be a tasteful, romantic development from the punchy, erratic artist we saw on Testing, a welcome shift back towards his softer tunes like “L$D”. Alongside teasing the new album, Rocky also spoke on a project with Vans which would see him “completely reinvent” the Vans Classic Slip-On in a very exclusive release. No dates have been announced for either venture, but the Harlem rapper told GQ “soon”.
