Opinions about Virgil Abloh are notoriously split, with some saying his work is all hype and no substance, and others coining him the “king of streetwear”.
In spite of what critics say, Abloh has undoubtedly accumulated a mass audience, and developed one of the “hottest brands” according to Lyst.
In December, Abloh shocked fans by making a strong statement and said that streetwear will die, and Abloh’s contemplations about the fashion industry don’t stop there.
In a new Instagram video he posted, Virgil is heard voicing his thoughts about the meaning of luxury and the relevance of fashion, while we observe past collections and behind the scenes footage of his shows.
Virgil opened up about the influence of muses, and the different shapes a muse can take.
He speaks of the inspiration he gathers from his inner circles, “you could be a musician, a writer, an architect” Virgil says, highlighting that what he’s really interested in is their creative process and the relationship to their own work.
He ends the video by revealing that he himself does believe that Fashion (with a capital F) is still relevant, but he is in the process of “investigating against it”.
