Valentino digitally showcased its latest haute couture collection yesterday in a film shot by Nick Knight titled ‘Of Grace and Light’.
Accompanied by an FKA Twigs soundscape, Pierpaolo Piccioli transported us into an ethereal dream-state. The experimental film debuted 16 all-white high drama looks with elongated silhouettes measuring up to 5 metres!
Whilst many brands saw lockdown restrictions as a setback, Piccioli used the medium of digital presentation to enhance and explore his ideas further. After the show Piccioli said “I think my duty is not to reflect the historical moment, but to react to it, I wanted to leave a strong mark and overcome limitations.”
And it looks like he did just that as critics were quick to state that this is “the digital experience the industry has been waiting for.”
Bryan Boy tweeted that Piccioli “delivered what no other haute courtier did: made us dream” continuing to say that he “took the essence of haute couture to the extreme [which is] what couture is supposed to be.”
