Top Trends From The AW20 Runways.
Cabaret Nocturne – Blood Walk.
It’s Pavel with CULTED.
With fashion month behind us, we’ve had time to reflect on all the trends that we saw in February. Here’s our rundown of the top 5 trends for AW20 in no particular order.
First up, we have latex.
The material popped up on a number of runways adding a fetish aesthetic to the collections- take Richard Quinn’s floral number for example. Latex was also a huge feature in the Saint Laurent collection with skin-tight vinyl appearing in all 66 looks. It also appeared in Balenciaga’s collection.
Next up is cinching and the corset silhouette.
This season saw many brands present waist-hugging silhouettes, with a good old fashioned cinch. The technique was a prominent feature in Givenchy, Celine and Fendi.
There was also a focus on sleeves for AW20.
We saw longline sleeves that drowned models hands from a number of brands, including Balenciaga, Off-White and JW Anderson.
Talking of Jonathan Anderson, Puffed statement sleeves are often a key feature in his collections – this season he incorporated this in his Loewe looks as well. We also saw this on the Fendi Runway.
For trend #4, fringing.
Givenchy, Dior, Bottega Veneta, Fendi, Prada and Burberry all used fringing in their collections. We can definitely see high street retailers going forward with this trend next season.
Our final trend – historical references.
Louis Vuitton closed Fashion Month with a collection that seamlessly fused skiwear with renaissance. Gucci’s presentation also provided us with a history of fashion, from Marie Antoinette style dresses to 70s tailoring.
And that’s it for our top 5 trends – which was your favourite?
