Fly me to the moon, or to Paris for the Kid Cudi X Mercedes-Benz immersive experience; it’s basically the same thing.

Last Friday, Mercedes-Benz hosted “Entergalactic”, an exclusive event in collaboration with pop-culture icon and music-artist, Kid Cudi. Whilst we’d never have put these two together, the event they hosted on Friday was quite literally out of this world, taking guests from the streets of Paris to the star-studded landscape of the moon via Mercedes-Benz’s immersive technology and design and Kid Cudi’s artistic vision.

Held in the gardens of the Musée Rodin in Paris, the partnership invited guests of the event to experience the inner workings of Kid Cudi’s mind through his first studio album, ‘Man on the Moon: The End of Day’. Released in 2009, only one year after Cudi first broke onto the music scene, the album quickly gained notoriety and consolidated his status as one to be watched.

However, even if you haven’t been actively watching the arc of Kid Cudi’s career, it’s been hard to miss. Skyrocketing to rap stardom through the release of ten studio albums, he’s scarcely fallen out of the public eye in the last thirteen years, even gaining a Grammy Award along the way. In his collaboration with Mercedes-Benz we were brought along to reminisce about his journey and, according to Cudi himself, experience “all of [his] artistic passions together in one environment.”

The event achieved this by providing a full sensory experience for its guests, filling the space with an intimate performance by Kid Cudi of his most-loved tracks, supported by the presence of a 20-piece orchestra and violinist who played classic renditions of Cudi’s music for the crowd either side of his set.

Bringing the interstella installation to life through their immersive digital projections and video-mapping, Mercedes transformed the venue from Paris garden to interplanetary party. Guests entered the event via a lunar moon path fit with LED screens and mirrors, and were then presented with visual projections of never-seen-before artwork produced by Kid Cudi in collaboration with New York-based artist, KAWS.

The event was a stunning feat of technological innovation and artistic brilliance on behalf of both collaborators, but also just what looks like a pretty amazing night on its own. Hopefully this isn’t the last crazy event we see from Kid Cudi and Mercedes-Benz.
