It seems Jordan Brand is looking to the past and pushing an old classic silhouette: the AJ11. Previously seen on DJ Khaled’s IG in the classic ‘cool grey’ colourway, in both high and low top, this release sees Jordans’ continued tendency to drop low-top models in a look forward to the warmer months of the year.
The former was one of the most anticipated reissues of 2021. Initially released in 2001, which marked six years after Michael Jordan himself wore the silhouette in court, they were reissued in 2010 to the delight of sneakerheads everywhere. Moving to 2021, the sneaker was re-released for a third time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the colourway, with new tweaks.
Launched with an accompanying rollout to various sneakerhead celebrities, these subtle tweaks included a new icy blue sole, darker upper and bigger leather mudguard. Now though, Jordans have launched a new colourway of the low silhouette for Spring: Pure Violet.
A women’s and kids’ exclusive, the newly-surfaced pair features a predominantly “colourless” base and midsole arrangement that allows for the pale purple to take the spotlight. Mudguards, branding and outsoles all display the titular pastel purple, predominantly in a semi-translucent finish.
Whilst fans of the original AJ11s will likely be on board, others online have questioned the low silhouette and the new colour way. We’ll have to wait and see on the wider reception of the sneakers, which are projected to land in stores later this year.
