The 2020 AMA Highlights.

Yesterday the 2020 American Music Awards took place. Hosted by Taraji P. Henson, and with a limited crowd in the audience, fans were treated to debut performances and some great looks from our favourite musicians. Since 2006, the AMA’s have been determined by fans voting online for their favourite musician. We were treated to a fun night, including record breakers and debut performance makers. Here are our highlights for the 2020 American Music Awards.

The WEEKND X KENNY G

The WEEKND took to the streets for an exclusive debut performance of ‘In your eyes’ and ‘Save Your Tears’ from his album After Hours. Sporting a red blazer and a bandage faced face, the look is a reference to his persona for his ‘After Hours’ album, and his way of showcasing the dangers of drunk driving. While both songs are absolute bops, it was Kenny G and his saxophone which stole the show for us.

TAYLOR SWIFT NAMED AMA ARTIST OF THE YEAR FOR A RECORD SIXTH TIME

Taylor Swift took home a number of awards last night; although she was not in attendance. The singer-songwriter was not present at the AMA’s in Los Angeles as she was back in her studio, re-recording her albums following a lengthy legal battle with Scooter Braun. Swift won the AMA artist of the year for a record sixth time alongside  ‘Favourite Female Artist for Pop/Rock’ as well as winning favourite music video with ‘Cardigan’.

JENNIFER LOPEZ TAKES US BACK

Jennifer Lopez brought us to where she started with a vintage performance. Alongside Maluma, Lopez performed two songs, from their upcoming movie ‘Marry Me’. Lopez stole the AMA’s as she dance and writhed around in a black LaQuan Smith catsuit, making us all collectively gulp in the process. Maluma was no slouch either though, as he was fitted in a Thom Browne pinstriped double-breasted suit and sunglasses. It was probably the best advert for a romantic comedy movie starring Owen Wilson.

MEGAN THEE STALLION WINS WITH WAP

Everyone’s favourite girl Megan Thee Stallion just keeps winning. Following the release of her debut album ‘Good News’, Megan Thee Stallion won the ‘Favourite Song- Rap/Hip-Hop’ award for her song WAP with Cardi B. Megan Thee Stallion then changed from her lime green Area minidress to absolutely kill a performance of her new song ‘Body’, in which she, never one to be upstaged, performed in a black sparkly bodysuit.

For a music award ceremony in the middle of a pandemic, this one gave us a treat of normalcy and made us look forward to being back in the crowd watching our favourite musicians perform.
