As releases begin to ramp up on the run-up to Christmas, collaborations look set to take over the sneakers space once again. adidas, Converse and Nike are all set to drop some serious heat with their respective collaborative partners this week. The old saying teamwork makes the dream work has never been more accurate.
I take a look at the best releases we are getting this week, as well as the news that caught my eye over the last seven days.
THIS WEEK’S NEWS: 04.10.21 – 10.10.21
Boston-based New Balance join forces with legendary American brand J. Crew on a New York City-themed 992. The NB 992 has long been a favourite amongst fans of the brand, with the New York Knicks colourway an absolute must cop.
The sneaker pulls clear inspiration from the state flag of New York, with the vibrant combination of blues and oranges making this 992 one of the most eye-catching sneakers on the marketplace. If you are looking for a sneaker that combines fashion with unbeatable comfort, the New Balance 992 is for you. A silhouette released on the brand’s 100th anniversary, the 992 is a remake of the classic 990 sneaker.
NEXT WEEK’S RELEASES: 11.10.21 – 17.10.21
After receiving a limited release through Patta stores across the globe, the Patta x Nike Air Max 1 is set to drop across multiple retailers this week. Featuring a wave design across the upper with a truly OG mesh wave design across the toebox. This AM1 is a must-have for die-hard Air Max fans amongst us. Patta loves Air Max, and we love Patta x Nike collaborations.
We also see adidas link up with not one but two different brands this week for a duo of legendary releases. CP Company partners with the German sportswear brand for a one-of-a-kind take on the Spezial. The iconic silhouette comes dressed in a white, green and red colourway that would not look out of place in the 80s.
In a slightly more eyebrow-raising collab, adidas links with toy company Lego on a pair of Superstars. Details across the silhouette mirror lego bricks, with a toebox featuring brick detailing and Tetris-like three stripes. The lego-block detailing against the classic Superstar details make this one of the most exciting adidas sneakers around.
Chinese-born, London-based designer Feng Chen Wang is at the forefront of the new generation of designers from China. With a style described as future-modern, emotional and multidimensional, Wang focuses on the technical deconstruction of items, a style evident in her upcoming Converse collaboration. The silhouette features a half and half design with the deconstructed back panel contrasting the toebox perfectly. The layered appearance gives this sneaker a seriously textured look, with a concrete pattern featuring across the front of the shoe. The armoured approach to the Chuck Taylor ’70 is something we have never seen before and something only Feng Chen Wang could do.
