The famed fashion photographer Steven Meisel is giving Zara a much-need high fashion makeover, with a sultry line of clothing and accessories that will be dropping at Dover Street Market before hitting the Zara stores.
The “Steven Meisel New York Collection” with Zara might seem like an odd pairing at first, but honestly, if H&M can do it with every designer under the sun, and Uniqlo can do it with Jil Sanders, then why not? This collaboration comes as one of the most backed by industry titans, with a campaign that features Linda Evangelista, Gigi Hadid, Irina Shayk, Kaia Gerber, Alton Mason and more.
Of course because it’s Steven Meisel, the campaign was definitely going to be a standout one. It’s shot primarily in black and white, capturing the sultry and dark energy the collection was created around, without revealing too much. It’s dramatic and it’s Americana, inspired directly from Meisel’s own expressiveness and creative ventures, from photography to illustration.
A croc-printed jacket, a faux-fur coat and lace-up crotch trousers all evoke the glam and grit of a 1960s rockstar. Music comes as a key player in this collection, with other pieces including a plaid shirt that gives off ‘90s grungy vibes.
Through provocative imagery and a collection that spans through different decades for inspiration, Steven Meisel is repainting the face of Zara. The full collection will drop on September 18 online and in selected stores.
