It’s CULTED with your 60-second ART BLAST.
Today, we’re taking a look at a 21st century powerhouse artist!
Sterling Ruby, described as “one of the most interesting artists to emerge in this century” by The New York Times, has exhibited his work at some of the world’s most famous galleries. The artist is best known for his sculptures like his spray-painted stalagmites made from PVC, and his ‘Supermax’ trilogy.
But not only does Sterling Ruby create eye-catching and memorable sculptures, textiles, paintings, collages and ceramics, he’s also no stranger to the fashion world. He’s collaborated with industry icons like Raf Simons and mega brands such as Calvin Klein, and even has his own line.
You wonder how he has the time!
His label S.R. Studio. LA. CA. made its runway debut last June prompting Suzy Menkes to say “that was the best new-person collection I have ever seen.”
And it seems Raf Simons might have had something to do with Ruby’s latest venture. After collaborating with Simons, Ruby told i-D “everybody was standing up, cheering. At that moment I thought, Fuck being an artist—this is wonderful.”
With an impressive back catalogue in art and fashion already behind him, Sterling Ruby is a creative force showing no signs of stopping.
