Marine Serre long predicted a troubled world. Both SS and AW20 saw the designer send models down the runway in up-cycled garments completed with surgical masks. Her designs are now more relevant than ever but she isn’t the only designer who’s made light of dark times.
London based DJ and producer DK (now Die Arktitekt) creates elaborate Maison Margiela inspired masks for his avant-garde techno performances and they have never been more relevant. Since the quarantine DK has been creating more masks than ever.
His STAY AT HOME, WEAR A MASK campaign will see new masks posted on DK’s instagram showcasing his fabric and 3D print designs, while encouraging people to get creative while they are trapped at home. But DK is not the only one getting crafty.
Fashion student’s at Prague’s Academy of Arts are also crafting hundreds of face masks. The students are using surplus and deadstock fabric to create the masks, which they are then sending out to “hospitals, retirement homes, volunteers or any other people in need”.
Croatian designer Zoran Avagovic has also been creating quirky masks to put a smile back on people’s faces during this time. Zoran said “these are not medical masks but cheerful accessories” and he believes the best way to fight the fear of the virus is with positivity.
So guys, have you seen anyone else using their quarantine time to get creative?
