The weekend has come and gone once again, with sneakerheads across the globe looking forward to this week’s sneaker releases. We look set for a wide range of silhouettes from our favourite brands, with a truly unique collaboration between Spaghetti Boys founder Kerwin Frost and adidas turning everybody’s head.
I take a look at the DJ-turned-internet personalities sneaker and career thus far, and a handful of other collaborations that adidas has dropping this week, as well as a superb shoe from the ever-popular Nike and sacai collection.
KERWIN FROST X ADIDAS FORUM
If you are unfamiliar with Kerwin Frost, you are missing out on one of the most polarising creatives within the fashion industry. The New York native is listed as a DJ, internet personality, talk show host, and fashion designer. Frost is well known for his eclectic style, as the pencil tattooed on his face personifies. He rose to fame on the New York streetwear scene, where he founded Spaghetti Boys alongside Austin Butts and Ray Martinez. The trio would make viral YouTube videos initially but eventually turned to fashion with a range of merchandise.
Take a trip to the Spaghetti Boys Instagram, and you will see the likes of The Weeknd, Bella Hadid and Jerry Lorenzo, all sporting the merch. Kerwin Frost would then set up Kerwin Frost Talks. A talk show on YouTube that sees Frost interview some of the biggest names in the game. The numbers speak for themselves, with many of the videos hitting well over a million views. Adidas tapping Kerwin up for collaboration is a stroke of genius, with Frost offering insight into a completely different world for the sportswear giants.
Frost’s collaboration with adidas sees a pair of Forum’s releasing, a low and high top. The Forum Low features a mix of vibrant colours with cartoon characters starring across the sneaker’s lateral side. The playful silhouette gives us a peek inside the brain of Frost, but it is the high top that really shows us what Kerwin Frost is all about.
The Forum High features an OG colourway of white and blue, but that is where the similarities end. The shoe features a complete set of teeth across the toebox, a plastic Mr Potato Head-esque plastic nose and even a pair of eyeballs. Dubbed the Humanchives, this sneaker is like nothing I have ever seen before and completely fits the personality of Kerwin Frost.
Sure, this sneaker isn’t for everybody. But it isn’t meant to be. Kerwin has made a name by being unapologetically himself. The quirky creative has not let anything get in the way of him designing the exact shoe he wants, and it shows with these two adidas Forum’s scheduled to drop.
SACAI X NIKE VAPORWAFFLE
The longstanding collaboration between Nike and Sacai is one of the most successful within the sneaker industry. The mind-bending design aspects that Chitose Abe brings to the sneaker game means her collaborative efforts are some of the most sought-after shoes every time they drop. The latest version comes in the shape of the infamous Vaporwaffle silhouette, dressed in a Sail/Gum colourway.
The sneaker comes dripping in iconic design aspects that only Sacai can pull off, with layered swoosh detailing, double tongues and an extreme oversized sole unit all starring. The mix of white and cream hues give the shoe a perfectly understated look to contrast the eye-catching appearance of the Vaporwaffle.
NOAH X ADIDAS VINTAGE RUNNER
NOAH has prided itself on drawing inspiration from vintage products, which is evident from the aesthetics of all NOAH pieces and campaigns. Founder Brendon Babenzien, who once upon a time worked at Supreme New York, has built quite the relationship with adidas, with a collection releasing each season from the dynamic duo.
The retro running silhouette draws clear inspiration from 80s runners, with an elevated-yet-minimalistic design making the sneaker perfect for everyday wear. The Vintage Runner is also crafted from 50% recycled materials. This helps both adidas and NOAH in the quest for sustainability in sneakers. The Vintage Runner releases alongside the NOAH Lab Race and a full apparel capsule. You will have the chance to grab turtle necks, hoodies, tees, beanies, and socks. Basically, for any item you need day to day, NOAH and adidas have you covered.
XBOX X ADIDAS FORUM
This sneaker is for the gamers amongst us. In a slightly more unique direction than we would usually see sneaker brands collaborate, adidas has joined forces with a Microsoft gaming console. They link up with Xbox for a limited-edition take on the Forum silhouette.
The Xbox x adidas Forum is releasing alongside the launch of ‘Halo: Combat Evolved’, and draws inspiration from the original Xbox console. Bright green hues contrast black underlays, whilst a translucent, green midsole gives the sneaker a gamer-friendly look. You will find the classic loading screen ‘XBOX’ detailing on the shoe’s tongue. The console’s place and birth year feature on the heel, too. This sneaker is a must-cop for the diehard computer players amongst us, giving you the perfect opportunity to rep your favourite console away from the games chair.
