Rental Fashion: Is It Really Sustainable?

It’s CULTED with your 60-second FASHION BLAST.
Fashion’s biggest environmental damage comes from overproduction and fast fashion but rental platforms come as THE solution to calm our fashion appetite without feeling guilty.
But how sustainable is rental fashion really?
According to Elle Magazine, there is definitely room for improvement.
First of all, shipping rental clothing has the same impact as shipping fast fashion.
Rush shipping produces 50 kg carbon!
Second, after returning your rented clothes the company behind it will likely dry clean all your items which requires much more energy than doing the normal wash at home.
Third, rental fashion might actually encourage our desire for new designer clothes! So we order, and ship, order and ship, starting the vicious circle we’re all trying to solve!
But, rental fashion is still much more sustainable than consuming fast fashion, and rental platforms are trying to resolve their problems.
They started to use reusable garment bags to reduce packaging waste and stopped using most chemicals for dry cleaning.
So, do you guys think renting clothes is the step in the right direction?
