@rayscorruptedmind is everywhere – but how did he come up? His gritty portraits of some of music and culture’s best known faces has cemented his place as one of today’s most exciting young photographers and creatives, most of which stemmed from organic friendships. Longtime friend Bloody Osiris first started shooting with Ray over 5 years ago. Capturing everything from Osiris’ fits to everyday hangouts, Ray’s hard-hitting portraits soon gained traction online, leading to a handful of further introductions and shoots including touring with Playboi Carti.
Perhaps his best known working relationship is with Travis Scott – who texted a mutual friend that he was ‘tryna meet (Ray)’ the next day. A couple of months after meeting in person, Scott flew Ray out to LA to come on tour with him, and the rest is history. Since then, he’s gone on to shoot countless other celebrities and creatives, including Kylie Jenner, Evan Mock and Salem Mitchell – the latter two of which featured in a lockdown photo-project conceptualised by Ray himself.
Ray’s raw shooting style and laid back vibe has seen him both immersed into the music scene and able to carve his own creative path while doing so – with big brands tapping him for his authentic expression and unabashed aesthetic. Creating a campaign for Nike back in 2017, who specifically asked for the shoot to ‘look exactly like his Instagram’, Ray’s work sits comfortably on both Instagram feeds and city billboards – traversing digital to physical, personal and global with his crafted eye.
In 2020, he released an apparel and merch line with posters of his most iconic photographs – from Kendrick to Yachty. Currently, Ray sits at nearly 700k followers on Instagram alone, and it’s not hard to see why: the photographer’s vast creative network and development of a unique visual language is loved by individuals and organisations alike.
