Raf Simons On The Current State of Fashion.
Music by: Cabaret Nocturne – Blood Walks.
Raf Simons, former Creative Director of Dior and Calvin Klein, spoke for the first time since his controversial departure from Calvin Klein.
The designer seemed a bit frustrated about the financial aspect of big brands, saying nowadays, most reviews judge a brand from an economic point of view.
He says sometimes “I see very shitty collections, but then they get praised because the business is doing extremely well.”
Simon gave us a little hint about his departure from Clavin Klein, stating that:
“when being a designer, what’s important is deciding who you want to work with – which can definitely happen with your own brand but that’s definitely not your choice when working in big brands.”
A message to young creatives, he says that “young people should not be afraid to kick ass and designers should not fear new generations”.
He makes a point that he does not want his own brand to become another “commercialized and flat business” that gives in.
With every major brand in the industry being so commercial now, we wonder if Raf Simons will ever work with a big brand again.
