Kerby Jean-Raymond, creative director of Pyer Moss, announced yesterday that he would be turning his New York office into a coronavirus donation centre. As a result of a shortage of basic medical supplies, the brand will redistribute latex gloves and face masks for those that require them to carry out their job.
Kerby took to Instagram to reveal he’s been inundated with messages from medical professionals who have a serious lack of essential supplies. This hit home as Kerby’s sister is one of those pros.
He wrote on Instagram:
“Many of them, including my sister, have not had enough n95 masks and some are without gloves. My sister was exposed to COVID-19 and her elder patients’ safety [has] been compromised due to some professionals having to wear makeshift masks.”
He went on to say that he was shocked to hear that medical staff in Philadelphia had also been using bleach to wash their masks.
In a separate post, the brand announced it will also be donating an additional $50,000 to help minority and female-owned small creative businesses.
Kerby’s gesture is the latest show of support from the industry. Here’s hoping many more follow suit.
