Last year Prada announced a collection with The Woolmark Trading Company for the Prada Luna Rossa sailing team. The collection which using an innovative natural kit will be worn by the team for the upcoming 2021 America’s cup.
The innovative use of a wool-heavy kit will help move away from using the usual synthetics that release micro-plastics into the ocean. It allows for the collection to be both biodegradable and renewable. In a statement received by CULTED, Prada wrote that the collection has a “very low impact both in its production cycle and disposable and with extraordinary breathability and waterproof characteristics.”
The collection will feature three products available to the public. A three-layered Official Sailing Team Jacket, as well as a 100% Merino wool Short-sleeve Polo and a Technical T-shirt. This is another step in the right direction by Prada to become more environmental. Previously, in 2019 signed a five-year sustainability loan, the first of its kind. The brand also introduced a sustainable line of bags, using Econyl nylon, a form of regenerated nylon.
The collection is available exclusively at Prada flagship stores and on their website. It will also be available from December 17th at the Luna Rossa store at the America Cup Village in Aukland New Zealand.
