When was the last time you saw a plus-size campaign starring male models?
The rise of fashion brands like Fenty has embraced female body diversity, but men are still being excluded from the conversation on body positivity.
It wasn’t until Zach Miko became the first-ever male plus-size model to be signed, that people realized the industry was missing male models of different sizes.
Last year, male model Darnel Ghramm recreated a Calvin Klein advert, and put together “male models with different…heights, sizes and shapes” saying “we exist and we are constituted by many different things”.
Model and male-body activist, Tevin Evans nicknamed “the fat chuck bass”, is also fighting to transform the male model landscape.
He said “I see plus-size women working with amazing designers – and I’m looking at the male industry like where are you guys, what’s going on?”
Retailers are also slowly catching up: in 2017 ASOS and Boohoo created a plus-size section, an action which was praised by many, but even so, it seems most brands are still not interested in placing plus men at the forefront.
So guys, what do you think is the next step for plus-size male models to gain more visibility in the industry?
