“C’était mégalo”, says Pigalle founder Stéphane Ashpool, talking about the brand’s FW21 collection. Loosely translated to ‘it was megalomaniac’, Ashpool’s informal way of speaking is a perfect way to encapsulate what his brand stands for.
Pigalle’s FW21 collection, titled ‘SOUND OF PARIS’ presents a trippy visual stimulation that focuses on the Parisian youth. The clothes, worn by a diverse cast of French models help perfectly represent the brand’s core appeal.
Colourful abstract backgrounds matched the collection’s eclectic use of colours, from bright orange hoodies to Joker-inspired tailoring. The collection feels very nostalgic, while at the same time incorporating futuristic elements using technical fabrics.
Pigalle is never afraid to combine elements of luxury and sportswear together, this time throwing in some workwear-inspired clothing. Dazzling gold buttoned vests were matched with combat trousers as well as multicoloured cropped jackets.
The show teased a collaboration with the Jordan brand, which sees an elevated take on the Jordan 1 sneaker through the use of velvet. Alongside the collaboration, Pigalle showed off a number of heavy-duty leather boots.
Pigalle has also announced a collaboration with Dutch company VanMoof on an electric city bike, which Ashpool plans to release at the end of the year. Speaking of his desire to release bicycles as part of the Pigalle brand, Ashpool said “I’ve always biked, but during this time in Paris the only time you can really be out without wearing a mask is on a bike. You have the wind in your hair, and you have fresh air and you won’t get stopped by the police: You can breathe and feel movement.”
Stéphane Ashpool has always worn his background on his sleeve. Growing up in the gritty streets of the Parisian red-light district, one can clearly say how his background inspired this collection. Ashpool is the perfect ambassador for what the city truly represents, especially to the New Gen living there now.
