In a week that looks set to see several high profile sneakers drop, I couldn’t help but dive into the best of the bunch. Thanks to Travis Scott and Kanye West returning to the headlines, the sneakers news world has also been alive and kicking.
Dior introduced its brand-new sneaker, the B30, during Frieze Week. The running silhouette is dripping in retro features, with CD starring across the shoe’s lateral side, demanding attention. The brunch enthusiasts over at Paperboy Paris also returned to the sneaker space with a Reebok and Beams collaboration announced in what will be its first sneaker, not with New Balance.
A busy few days of releases and news has kept every sneakerhead on their toes. Let’s take a look at the best of the best from the sneaker world this week.
THIS WEEK’S NEWS: 11.10.21 – 17.10.21
You may not like it, but Travis Scott is the most polarising figure right now in the sneaker industry. Whatever the Hip Hop mogul touches turns to gold, and his collaboration with Jordan Brand is consistently one of the most sought-after drops year after year. Whenever Scott is spotted in a pair of J’s, magnifying glasses come out as everybody tries to work out exactly what is on La Flame’s feet. Well, that is precisely what happened this week.
Cactus Jack took to Instagram to show off a previously unreleased colourway of his iconic Air Jordan 1 Low sneaker. The colourway looks to be dressed in white, grey and brown hues throughout, with the instantly recognisable reverse swoosh of course featuring. The minimalistic colour palette mirrors a combination of the Travis Scott AJ1 High ‘Mocha’ and his Playstation collaboration that was released in seriously minimal numbers. Thanks to this, I expect this latest version to be one of the most highly anticipated Travis Scott Jordan’s we have seen drop.
NEXT WEEK’S RELEASES: 18.10.21 – 25.10.21
Starting the week stronger than most, Kanye West is releasing not one but two YEEZY’s this week. The superstar artist has a duo of Yeezy Boost 380s already on sale today in Stone Salt and Pyrite colourways. Later in the week, though, we see a brand-new version of Ye’s most talked about silhouette. The Yeezy 450. Coming dressed in a Cloud White colourway, the sock-like shoe features a genuinely insane sole unit with a wave design that runs up the entire sneaker. If you are looking to turn heads, the Yeezy 450 is for you.
Nike has always embraced Halloween, and we will not be disappointed with the sportswear giants spooky colourways this year either. The first of Nike’s Halloween release sees the legendary Dunk dressed in a pumpkin-inspired theme. The black panels across the upper perfectly complement sail underlays, whilst the pop of orange across the swoosh detailing ensures that the Nike Dunk Low ‘Halloween’ would not look out of place on any trick or treater.
Reebok is no stranger to collaborations, but the upcoming capsule with Keith Haring may be the most eye-catching yet. Working on four signature silhouettes with Reebok, the vibrant sneakers will feature various artistic pieces from the estate of Keith Haring. The GL-6000 is my favourite shoe from the collection, with the retro sneaker covered in eye-catching green with Haring’s artwork on the heel. A trainer you could see the man himself wearing.
Rounding off what can only be described as one of the best sneakers release weeks this year is the intriguing collaboration between New Balance and Stone Island. It would have been easy for the duo to join forces on a 992 or one of New Balance’s more popular silhouettes. Instead, we see them team up on a version of the RC Elite. Traditionally a running-only shoe, Stone Island look to turn the sneaker into a lifestyle model. A sneaker guaranteed to garner attention, a shredded design across the upper tears through the N detailing revealing a Stone Island badge across the toebox. I am intrigued to see how this shoe is received from the masses once released.
