It’s CULTED with your Monday NEWSRUSH.
First up, Black representation in Chinese media is rare, but WWD has just reported that Black models in China are getting more and more representation. This is due to a new wave of designers who regard inclusive casting as essential to their work.
In other news, Beyoncé dropped a surprise trailer for her upcoming visual album ‘Black Is King’ yesterday. In an Instagram post Beyoncé said she “wanted to present elements of Black history and African tradition, with a modern twist and a universal message, and what it truly means to find your self-identity.” The visual album will be released on July 31st on Disney+.
And it seems Beyoncé was on a roll this weekend as Michelle Obama presented her with the Humanitarian Award at this year’s BET Awards. She was recognised for the #IDIDMYPART Mobile Relief Testing Campaign, which she created with her mother in response to the pandemic, as well as her BeyGOOD initiative.
Other winners from the night included Lizzo, who took home the award for Best R&B/Pop Artist, Album Of The Year went to Roddy Ricch and Megan Thee Stallion picked up the award for Best Female Hip Hop Artist.
That’s all for this morning it’s Sam with CULTED.
