First up, Michael Jordan has pledged $100M to organisations that are “ensuring racial equality, social justice and greater access to education.” The basketball legend, along with the Jordan brand, will make the donation over the next 10 years.
In similar news, Nike has pledged $40M to organisations offering support to the black community. In a statement, Nike CEO John Donahoe said “systemic racism and the events that have unfolded across America over the past few weeks serve as an urgent reminder of the continued change needed in our society.”
In other news, Reddit co-founder, Alexis Ohanian, has resigned and is urging the company to replace him with a black candidate. He revealed the news in a Twitter statement adding that he “will use future gains on [his] Reddit stock to serve the black community, chiefly to curb racial hate, and [he’s] starting with a pledge of $1M to Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights.”
And finally BTS and Big Hit Entertainment have donated $1M to Black Lives Matter and fans are trying to match their donations. The fanbase have already raised an incredible $500,000 as part of their #MatchAMillion initiative.
