Monday News Rush Featuring Nike’s ‘Don’t Do It’ Video.
It’s CULTED with your NEWS RUSH for Monday 1st June.
First up, corporate voices from across the fashion industry are getting behind ‘Black Lives Matter’ causes, as protests continue to spread around the world.
It’s no secret that the industry has an inbuilt history of tokenism and underlying racism but we are finally seeing global corporations and industry leaders speaking out against racial injustices, following George Floyd’s death. More on this later.
Next up, Chrissy Teigen has pledged $200,000 to bail out George Floyd protestors. This is a prime example of how celebrities can use their influence and privilege to help drive positive change and we hope to see more follow Chrissy’s lead.
Next, Nike released their “Don’t Do It” video calling for action against systemic racism. The video starts with an alternative version of the brand’s iconic slogan, opening with text that reads “For once, just don’t do it.” Nike competitor Adidas shared the video in solidarity.
To round off today, Off-White has announced it will skip its upcoming September show and launch its SS21 collection in stores in February. This will see a reduction between the showing of “seasonal collections and the time frame when consumers would actually buy them”.
That’s all for today.
It’s Sam with CULTED.
