It’s CULTED with your Met Gala special!
Seeing as it’s the first Monday of May and the annual event is cancelled we thought we’d do a rundown of some unforgettable looks.
First up, remember when Jaden Smith turned up to the Met in 2017 for the Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons theme with his dreads as an accessory? Made the whole internet wonder what on earth was going on, typical Jaden.
Last year’s ‘Camp’ theme also had its fair share of memorable looks. Both Billie Porter and Gaga’s dramatic entrances were praised and took the internet by storm. And let’s not forget to mention Kim K in that Thierry Mugler wet look dress – we wouldn’t expect anything less from the mastermind designer.
And the year before that, Kanye’s futuristic look by Balmain, for the ‘Manus x Machina: Fashion in the World of Technology’, got people talking. While many criticised his choice to wear ripped jeans to the Gala, others loved his contact lenses.
But, it was a little hard to compare to Zayn’s look that year alongside Gigi Hadid. Zayn wore a Versace suit paired with metallic robot arms, causing fans to lose it.
Janelle Monae’s look from 2019 also deserves a special mention, as well as Ezra Miller’s insane look which was a collaboration with Burberry by Riccardo Tisci.
We’ll never forget Rihanna’s iconic Maison Margiela look by John Galliano for the 2018 ‘Heavenly Bodies’ theme… or her internet breaking look by Guo Pei for the 2015 Met Gala. The theme for that year was ‘China: Through The Looking Glass’.
Lana Del Rey, Jared Leto and Alessandro Michele also executed the theme flawlessly that year.
Going back in time, we have Kate Moss wearing this simple gold look by Marc Jacobs, for the 2009 theme ‘Oscars of Fashion’.
In 2006, Sarah Jessica Parker turned up with legend Alexander McQueen to the Met Gala – the look couldn’t be more memorable and signature McQueen.
Going even further back, how could this list not include Naomi Campbell?
She lit up the Met in this Versace look for the 1995 ‘Haute Couture’ theme. Gianni Versace was also an honorary chair of the gala that year.
And finally, in 1974 Cher turned heads in this hot nude illusion dress designed by Bob Mackie, for the theme “Romantic and Glamorous Hollywood Design”.
So guys, we know there have been many other looks worth mentioning but did your favourites make an appearance? If not let us know which looks we should check out!
