Familiar with Hippocrates’ Humoral Theory? Us neither, but let Magliano guide you through it with its latest collection. The collection hinges on the four humoral fluids: Melancholic, Sanguine, Phlegmatic, Choleric. These are the temperaments of Magliano’s Spring/Summer 2022 characters, inspired by Hippocrates’ Humoral Theory.
Presenting a collection that consists of a mashup of new appearances, upcycling is favoured by reusing and updating fabrics from previous seasons. Organic dyes and stylistic pastiches are also used.
Breaking down the four fluids, Magliano’s Melancholic are the workwear elements, the work overalls and the studies on technical clothing. Sanguine is all about seduction: transparent cotton voile is found interspersed with signature underwear pieces, decorated with a floral “M”. According to the brand, the silk shirts of the collection are made from old scarves “that dress those who are in love”.

Elsewhere, classic-cut jackets, oversized sweatshirts, double-breasted trousers are constructed in typical Magliano tropical wool, dyed this season with the help of flowers. Choleric is the use of randomly matched prints on t-shirts, and this spirit also characterises the linen suits and jacquard wool dresses in the collection.
In such a narrative-driven collection and accompanying campaign for Milan Fashion Week, Magliano has its models gradually become more and more agitated. Enlisting choreographer Michele Rizzo, this syncopated performance works to organise their movements’ eventual transformation.
