“Love Is Your Colour Today!”
George Floyd, a 46 year old black man, died in police custody on Monday 25 May in the city of Minneapolis. The same evening a video went viral, showing an unarmed George Floyd pinned to the ground groaning “I can’t breathe”, as a white policeman knelt on his neck. Since then, Black Lives Matter demonstrations have taken place across the world demanding justice.
We attended the Black Lives Matter protest in London’s Hyde Park in solidarity with the movement. Protesters had this to say:
We cannot live in a society that was built on racism, and that was built on the after effects of colonialism and slavery. We are still living those after effects.
We have the amazing tool of social media to keep things alight. This is why it became so big in the first place. It needs to be ins… embedded. Just as much as racism is embedded in institutions, anti-racism should be embedded now.
