When it comes to sneakers, sacai x Nike is the cream of the crop, but now Jean Paul Gaultier is getting in on the action too. The French fashion House has recently taken to Instagram to tease a woven take on the VaporWaffle silhouette in two unique colourways.
Arriving in a muted off-white, and a vibrant green, blue, yellow and red mix, there’s something for everyone in this fashion meets footwear collaboration. Unlike previous sacai x Nike releases, which have seen a layered Nike logo adorn the side panel of the sneaker, these limited-edition pairs go sans-Swoosh.
The sneaker is constructed from a mixed material construction, merging luxury suede with mesh, providing texture and durability. Triple-branded logos overlay the Jean Paul Gaultier, Nike and sacai logos and can be found on the tongue and heel.
Classic sacai x Nike VaporWaffle details, such as a double-layered sole unit, which opens up at the back, nod to the deconstruction methods seen in Chitose Abe’s brand. sacai has positioned itself at the intersection of runway fashion and accessible, wearable designs through its playful reworkings of Nike silhouettes. Nods to Jean Paul Gaultier’s playful and unconventional designs can be seen through the multicoloured, woven colourway. The latest designs feel like a fitting palette for a House that is unafraid to include vibrant colours in its runway and ready-to-wear offerings.
The Jean Paul Gaultier x sacai x Nike sneaker will release exclusively on the JPG website on November 22 at 12pm CET.
