In his retirement video, Jean Paul Gaultier teased that haute couture at the fashion house would continue after his retirement with a “new concept”.
Well the wait to discover what exactly this new concept is is finally over. The designer took to Instagram to announce the new strategy for the brand’s haute couture division. He said:
“Each season, I will invite a designer to interpret the codes of the House and I am doubly pleased that Chitose Abe of Sacai will be the first one!”
The designer will showcase her collection for the house in July during the bi-annual couture week. In a statement for the house Jean Paul said:
“The idea of different designers interpreting one haute couture brand came to me in the nineties for a Parisian Haute Couture House who found itself without a designer.”
On Chitose Abe he explained:
“I admire her work, we have many things in common creatively and a similar vision of fashion”
We’ve seen similar strategies rolled out in several fashion houses, including Moncler who showed their latest Genius collaboration in Milan.
Which designer do you think will next be invited to collaborate?
