Streetwear’s popularity continues to grow, with style influencers like Jaden Smith and Luka Sabbat swapping out fitted silhouettes for relaxed oversized fits. But is this just another trend or is there a deeper reason for the style shift?
We all heard Billie Eilish giving her reasons for covering her body with oversized streetwear, after social media was flooded with people making comments on the then 17 year old’s body.
But it seems Billie might not be the only person ditching form fitting items because of body issues. With the world of Instagram becoming flooded with influencers, we are being inundated daily with images of thin, toned bodies.
A report by the Florida House Experience found that 88% of women and 65% of men compared themselves to images from social media. And a separate study found Instagram to be the worst social media app for young people’s mental health.
So is it any wonder in a world of growing narcissism that we are wanting to cover our bodies with oversized streetwear?
We want to hear from you – were you relieved when we swapped out skin tight clothing for looser fits?
Let us know.
