There’s no denying that streetwear is part of the fashion industry’s sustainability crisis!
But don’t sweat, there are ways that you can consciously shop your favourite Stüssy hoodies.
So here are our top 3 tips:
First, become more critical towards a brand’s approach, even if they boast “sustainable practises”.
Brands can make vague statements about carbon footprint, without it meaning much. Brands that are genuinely committed to sustainability will provide details of where they source their materials, chemical waste, and their factory conditions.
Next, know what your clothes are made of.
More often than not, consumers can be fooled by statements about garments made from recycled plastic. At the end of the day, if it’s made out of plastic – it’s still a disposable material. Production details are needed to fully understand an item’s carbon footprint – so make sure you know where, how and what your next sneaker is made of.
Finally, Reuse, Resell, Repurpose.
It’s a no-brainer when it comes to sustainability, but buying, renting or borrowing second-hand streetwear is a much better option than buying brand new products. So consider going vintage on your next Supreme jacket.
