Gucci and Kering have launched a new campaign to fund smaller organisations which offer support to women around the world who are struggling with gender-based domestic violence during the pandemic.
The campaign is part of Gucci’s Chime For Change initiative, aimed at raising funds and awareness of gender-based domestic violence charities.
Salma Hayek who co-founded Chime For Change in 2013 said “now more than ever is the time to join together and to protect the health, safety and human rights of girls and women around the world.”
Both WHO and UN Women reported a surge in domestic violence cases against women since lockdown began, and the UK’s largest domestic abuse charity, Refuge, has reported a 700% increase in calls to its helpline in a single day.
Gucci has launched a crowdfunder with Global Giving to generation donations to the cause which can be accessed at globalgiving.org/standwithwomen.
Since being founded in 2013, the Chime For Change initiative has supported more than 430 domestic violence projects globally.
