Over the weekend big news broke that Gucci will be going seasonless, shifting to only two shows per year!
This comes after fellow Kering brand, Saint Laurent, revealed plans to skip Paris Fashion week, and change its entire show schedule for the rest of 2020.
But why exactly did Gucci take this big step?
Well first – because of the industry’s need to slow down.
During a press conference Alessandro Michele elaborated on Gucci’s new system, saying “five shows is complex, especially after the planet has told us we were going too fast…I feel I need to give myself some time”.
But will the next shows be physical?
With the current circumstances forcing designers to re-evaluate how to present their shows, Michele hints that the shows may become digital saying “it would be nice to choose whether to meet physically or not. But if we don’t meet in person, the experience will be equally intense”.
Known for his uniquely independent spirit and creativity, he says “I have faith in creativity to solve everything”.
What can we expect from Michele and which brands do you think will be next?
