With fashion brands beginning to recover from the slump in sales seen in 2020, Lyst has released its Index, a quarterly ranking of fashion’s hottest brands and products.
Up in first place for the hottest brand of the first quarter of 2021 is Gucci. Following their North Face collaboration, their Balenciaga ‘hacking’ and the number of popular celebrities they dress like Billie Eilish and Harry Styles, it’s no wonder they are still on everyone’s mind. Nike has made a surprising jump into second place, following a 59% increase in digital sales, the launch of their hands-free sneakers for adaptive athletes and who could forget the ruckus caused by Lil Nas X’s ‘Satan’ shoes. The other brands to make the elusive top five spots include Dior, Balenciaga and Moncler.

The Lyst Index’s formula also looks at the most popular products. By searching through more than eight million items through social media mentions, searches, page views, interactions and sales, they can tell us what the hottest products of 2021 are so far. For womenswear, the North Face x Gucci GG canvas bomber jacket topped the rankings. Meanwhile, the hottest men’s product was the adidas Yeezy 450 sneaker.
After months of sweatpants and luxury loungewear dominating the stats, we’re now seeing a rise in searches for formalwear. Lyst stated that categories such as high heels and dresses are rising, with searches up 153% and 222% quarter-on-quarter. Strappy dresses for women and collared shirts for men both feature in the hottest products list. Meanwhile ‘Gorpcore’ is still one of the biggest trends out there, with Patagonia, Arc’teryx and Salomon being included in the men’s hottest products list.
