It’s CULTED with your 60-second FASHION BLAST.
In a recent interview with The Business of Fashion, the poet and LGBTQ rights activist Alok Vaid-Menon said fashion and beauty industries need to be completely “de-gendered”!
And that people still only “want the aesthetic of diversity and they don’t actually want us”.
But how can fashion improve and celebrate non-binary people better?
For Vaid-Menon, casting a diverse array of genders, abilities, sizes and races” and “moving beyond gender-segregation” marks the beginning.
While there is lots of room to improve, we are happy to see that some artists and designers make that change happen!
Fashion labels such as Gucci are fostering diversity and non-binary, by creating genderless products and campaigns.
Like their ‘Gucci’ Mémoire’ a fragrance “unassigned with gender or time” embracing fluidity and fashion.
It features Harry Styles and Harris Reed, who both embrace beauty and fluidity.
So as some of these big brands are trying to improve – it is important to remember that this topic is not a trend.
