We all know that fur has now faced its downfall, as many major brands like Prada and Gucci have stopped the use of fur to keep consumers happy.
But do you still wear leather?
A survey carried out by the Morning Consult found that many consumers were beginning to develop negative feelings towards leather too.
In an article urging consumers to use Vegan Leather, PETA stated that:
“For the animals involved, leather production is just as violent, painful, and deadly as the fur trade”
So, what does this mean for the leather industry?
Well, Lyst reports that searches for vegan leather have increased by 199 percent in the past few months, brands like Topshop and Doc Martens have already launched Vegan leather shoes.
But, faux leather comes at a significant environmental cost.
Much of it is made using materials which are not biodegradable, and the chemical processes involved are extremely toxic to the environment.
We hope that soon enough even better alternative options will become available.
What do you guys think? Should brands drop leather – and will you?
