In this video, Costa Rican visual artist John Paul Fauves answers CULTED’s questions, explaining the inspiration behind his art and the meaning of his masks.

He gives us a tour of his studio and lets us in on his creative process.

Fauves is known for relating questions of identity to art history, through his paintings, as well as our everyday interactions with the media and mainstream culture. He is massively inspired by modernist masters and pop artists which is reflected in his bold, eye-catching work.
